Jan Provoost or Provost (1463/1465 - 1529)

In 1525 by Jan Provoost for the Council Chamber of the Town Hall of Bruges. In 1828 transferred to the Museum.
The magistrate to the nominated had to remember his duty to justice. Earlier adaptations were removed in 1956.
By Jan Provoost are three similar paintings known, namely in the Detroit Institute of Art, the Fogg Museum in Cambridge (Massachusetts), and the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
